One of the victims of the pandemic is the main stakeholders of the education sectors – students and teachers. The pandemic caused the education sectors to have visible paradigm shifts in teaching and learning methodology, where the role of digitization plays a huge role. While teachers had to change their normal work operations mode to using the Google Classrooms and the students had to adopt the new learning model of online learning.

The sudden paradigm shifts in the education sector were found to have produced anxiety and depression symptoms among a portion of student mainly due to the stressful load of work required. One may say, teachers should reduce the workload. Although it was found that online learning provides ample advantages to the students, but the sudden change may have caused the student taken aback, where they are required to redesign their schedule to complement the online learning syllabus. As online learning is a long-distance learning method, some of the students may find it hard to approach the teachers during or after the class session. Teachers will try their best to explain the questions being asked by the students, but teachers will not be able to find out if the student has indeed understood the explanation as they cannot read or see the body language of a student through the online learning session. To ensure the students have indeed understood the topic being taught, online assignments are designed, be it 10 questions multiple choice questions or 10 marks structural questions, but through these assignments, the teachers will be able to analyse the performance of the class before the school exams commence.

1) Create goals. One can have many goals, in term of academic (example: This time I need to pass my Sejarah subject), personal (example: I need to reduce weight and be active at home) or social (example: This is the chance where I can show my affection and gratitude to my family members).

2) Find out strengths and weaknesses. List out those subjects that you scored well; these are those subjects that compliment your current study methods. Next, list out those subjects that you think you could have done better; these are the subjects that you need to come out with another design of study methods. If your study method has been revising few days before the exam, then now you may need to start your revision every week by spending at least 15 – 20 minutes on each subject (both your strong and weak subjects). The best way to have an effective self-revision session is by preparing notes after finish the revision of a subtopic. Notes can be prepared by using the traditional method (using paper) or the digital method (using computers or any electronic devices). These revisions will help to reduce your workload when you are doing your final revision for your next exam.

3) Reschedule your time. To have a well-balanced ‘Stay-At-Home’ life, one needs to have a well-balanced routine. Do not ignore a well balanced diet, do not ignore doing exercise, do not ignore doing your hobbies. Allocate your time for each of those activities you like and add in at least 2 hours’ worth of self-revision time. Finish up your assignments as early as possible, do not leave them at the last minute or it may cause an anxiety attack. Burning midnight oil will not always be effective.

On a side note, remember to always show your gratitude to your teachers, a simple ‘Thank You’ after each class session will be enough to show your gratitude. To ensure the online class works smoothly, they had to learn new digital skills to complement the online learning requirements. A proper computer usage skill requires months or years of practice, but the teachers had to learn it within a night. Some of them might have slept late at night to learn the tricks on how to use Google Classroom, Google Meet, Google Forms, Google Docs, etc. And as usual, the teachers are like a candle, where they will burn themselves to ensure their students receive proper light exposure by instilling knowledge that will help the students continue with their daily routines.
